Now, I know Christmas isn’t all about the presents, but this year, I was thrilled with my lot. My favourite part of the day is the gift section; I love handing over the presents I spent weeks deliberating on and lovingly wrapping, and I love my family’s reactions to what I’ve chosen. Of course, I also love receiving presents; not only is it of course lovely to get pretty new things, but it reminds me how lucky I am to have such thoughtful loved ones, who put so much thought and effort into what to buy me. So in celebration of that, here’s what I got for Christmas this year…
I pointed out this beautiful pink bag to my boyfriend the moment I saw it; I loved the elegant winged shape and fell head over heels with the ballerina pink shade. That was back in October, so I was thrilled to unwrap it on Christmas morning! Expect to see this in many posts to come; I stuffed it with my belongings for Christmas Day and took it out sales shopping yesterday too – I can’t get enough! It’s from Accessorize and unfortunately is currently out of stock, but keep an eye on it here – it’s at a great price in the sale!
My boyfriend did really spoil me this year; he also picked me up a book I’ve been wanting to read forever. ‘Edie Factory Girl’ is a book all about Andy Warhol’s infamous muse and 60s fashion icon, Edie Sedgwick, and is packed full of crazy tales and gorgeous photographs. So interesting that I’ve finished it already! He also bought me a book by one of my favourite authors, Richard Yates, called ‘Young Hearts Crying’, and as I’ve recently been planning a teen novel, he bought me Dawn O’Porter’s two novels, which he thought would help me along in the process. I’m three chapters into ‘Paper Aeroplanes’ already and I love it!
Finally, he treated me to some Lush goodies, including the gorgeous Christmassy ‘Christmas Angel’ bath melt, some delicious-sounding Charbonnel et Walker sea-salt caramel truffles, the DVD of the Yves Saint Laurent film, and a bottle of perfume I’ve been lusting after for ages, Stella by Stella McCartney. It’s fresh and floral and dark and sexy all at the same time, and I love love love it!
Thoroughly spoiled already, I was also treated to some fun goodies by my parents, including some cute pug socks, a gorgeous silk make-up bag, and a beautiful enamel clock from Thomas Kent that I pointed out nearly a year ago! It’ll be perfect for when we can finally decorate a flat! They also got me a book on how to make and sew vintage-inspired bits and pieces for the home, again so ideal for when we get settled.
My mother-in-law sent down a huge package of treats and gifts, including piles of food and cheeky chocolates, as well as some lovely presents. There was a beautiful decorative trinket box, silver earrings, and a very special treat. She’s been setting up her own craft business in the last few months, and part of that is making the sweetest handmade rag dolls, personalised to the owner. I ordered two twin dolls for my baby cousins born last month, and absolutely loved them, so I was thrilled when I unwrapped one of my one! Inspired by a Minnie Mouse costume I wore for a fancy dress party a few years back, she has the prettiest outfit and face, and I’ve named her Minnie in honour of it.
As well as these bits and pieces, I got a few bath and body bits, including some luxurious Elemis miniatures, and some cute house decoration bits from my brother and sister-in-law. I was so pleased with my lot and so grateful to have to many pretty things, so well-thought out and chosen so lovingly for me. I wish it could be Christmas everyday!
