Here we are again, with a selection of my new favourite products! I don’t really tend to be too adventurous with my cosmetics or skincare; generally I find something I like and use it time and time again. However, I’ve decided to try and branch out a bit and try some new things, both in cosmetics and skincare, and in the process, I’ve unearthed some fab new finds. So without further ado…
Groomed and Glossy
In both my makeup and my fashion sense, I prefer a sleek, put-together look as opposed to anything edgy or scruffy. So naturally, some of my favourite new products are ones which have been helping me to achieve a sleek, sophisticated look without taking up too much time or effort. First up, L’Oreal Professionel Mythic Oil, a firm beauty blogger favourite. I’ve had this used on me time and time again in salons but didn’t take the leap to purchase, favouring my Moroccan Oil instead. But after I noticed my ends were getting raggedy, and my lengths were feeling and look dry, I decided to give this a go. As expected, it’s true love. The smell of this oil is just gorgeous, and while it’s much lighter than Moroccan Oil, for me it’s no less intense. I’ve noticed a huge difference in the condition of my hair and I know it’s down to this. It’s also amazingly long-lasting – I’ve been using this every time I’ve washed my hair for almost two months and it’s hardly made a dent. Mythic Oil will definitely come in handy if I do decide to make the colour leap I’ve been contemplating…
While I love glossy hair, I love glowy skin to match. I’ve been working hard to remember to look after my skin, but sometimes you just need that extra boost; step forward, L’Oreal Lumi Magique primer. It’s not exactly a new face on the scene, and I’ve been using this for a while, but it’s only now that I’m really appreciating its powers. Dull, bland skin is transformed into the picture of health with one quick swipe, and it makes make-up look magazine-perfect, all day long. I tend to use this on top of a primer that extends make-up wear, as this isn’t the best for ensuring all-day perfection, but it works in harmony to create the kind of complexion I could only dream of. And of course, no groomed beauty look is complete without beautifully coiffed brows. I’ve been using brow powder for a year or so, but I started to think there must be a better way, something less harsh. I decided to give Maybelline’s Brow Satin pencil a try, and so far, so impressed. It’s a duo product, with a defining pencil tip at one end, and a sponge tip which applies soft powder at the other. I use the pencil to define the shape of my brows, and to define the tail of them, and fill in the body of the brows with the sponge end. Cue soft, defined, natural-looking brows quickly!
Nails are a relatively new beauty arena for me, as I’ve only just kicked a lifelong nail-biting habit. Now I’m the proud owner of ten long(ish) talons, I’ve really enjoyed taking some pride in looking after them and keeping them looking lovely. I’m putting their strength and growth down to Sally Hansen Advanced Hard As Nails Strengthener, which I keep 2-3 coats of on all the time. I’ve enjoyed choosing new colours, particularly pretty pinks, such as Maybelline’s Color Show polishes. I recently picked up the shades Nebline, a candyfloss pink, and Rose Chic, an amazing silvery-pink glitter polish. I also finally got to try a polish I’ve had for a while – the Bourjois 1 Seconde Nail Enamel and Top Coat in Vampire Vanity. This is a silicone-style top coat, packed with large flakes of gold leaf, which gives the most amazing glamorous finish to manicures. Tres chic!
There’s nothing like a lipstick to finish off a look just right, and I’ve bought three recently which are now firm favourites in my collection. I love the Kate Moss Rimmel Lasting Finish lipsticks, which offer great colour and quality at really low prices, so unsurprisingly, two of them have made the cut here. The first is shade 16, a soft coral-based pink. This is like a really peachy take on a nude lip and looks amazing with retro 60s-style makeup, or as the standout feature in a basic makeup look. A definite favourite for Spring! The next one is shade 22, a traffic-stopping scarlet. This is a real, true red with a blue base, meaning teeth look whiter and my complexion looks brighter. A properly stunning red lip is so easy to achieve with just a quick swipe of this one. I was also looking for a bit of a brighter pink for Spring, and I found a dream shade from Maybelline, I picked up a Color Sensational lipstick in Petal Pink last week, and it’s just divine. It’s a real baby pink shade, which might be unflattering for some, but for me, it brightens up my face and there’s another hint of a blue base too. It’s super girly and so pretty, and the colour lasts for ages too.
As with my makeup, I’m pretty loyal to my skincare. But recently I’ve had a change up from my usual Body Shop products – only because when I visited the store they were out of all of my favourites – and so far, so good. I needed a new foaming facial cleanser and an everyday exfoliator, and Neutrogena’s Visibly Clear range jumped out at me. No, not just for the pretty pink packaging. Both products use Micro-Clear technology to help minimise blemishes and condition the skin gently, and so far, I’ve already noticed an improvement in skin that was previously going a bit haywire. Both products have the most gorgeous, fresh pink grapefruit scent too, The cleanser foams with ease and leaves my skin feeling tingly (in a good way!) and super clean, while the scrub works to slough away dead skin, whilst being gentle enough to use everyday. It’s early days, but I can see this combo staying in my routine for a long time to come…
