I am not ashamed to say that I’m a makeup fiend. I go maybe once a week without wearing a full face of makeup, if that. It’s not just that I like how I look with makeup on; I also love the process of applying it and feeling transformed when I’m done. I’m a creature of habit with my makeup, and I don’t like to change things up too frequently, so when I settle into a routine, I tend to keep it for a good few weeks/months. So without further ado, here’s my current routine of choice…

Left to Right, Top to Bottom: Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion +, Nivea Express Hydration Primer, Simple Kind To Eyes Soothing Eye Balm. The Balm Hot Mama Blush, Rimmel Match Perfection Silky Loose Face Powder, Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation, Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer, Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. Maybelline Brow Satin, Bourjois 1 Seconde Volume Waterproof Mascara, Soap and Glory SuperCat Fat Eyeliner Pen. Brushes: All Real Techniques. Spoolie: ELF.

Starting my makeup with a proper base is essential, otherwise I really notice the difference. Moisture seems to be key for me, so I start with a couple of blobs of eye cream (fine lines at 23, eek!), before smoothing on a dollop of Clinique moisturiser. I find this to be a really luxurious-feeling moisturiser, but it’s so light and sinks in so quickly – perfect for when I’m in a rush! Then I amp up the moisture with the Nivea Express Hydration primer, which just feels like drenching my skin. It absorbs quickly and makes my skin look bright and plump and ready for the next step in seconds.

I’ve been loyal to Bourjois Healthy Mix for a couple of years now, and I see no reason to make a change to this part of my routine. I use the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush to buff in one pump of foundation, and I find that it quickly creates a natural-looking, dewy base. The coverage isn’t always enough (especially at the moment, seeing as my skin has gone wild!), so I then use the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer and the RT Pointed Foundation Brush to cover up my under-eyes, then swap brushes to the RT Detailer Brush, to camouflage any blemishes. I use the Healthy Mix concealer and the foundation brush to cover up any additional redness on my nose and chin, and blend this in to create a seamless base.

I finish off the base by pressing loose powder under my eyes with the RT Contour Brush, to set the concealer and stop it merging into any lines, before applying a generous dusting all over with the RT Powder Brush. I would usually use a cream highlighter and cream blush pre-powder, but I’ve found I’m preferring a slightly less dewy look at the moment. I’m currently loving The Balm Hot Mama blush, which is a really pigmented rose gold, with plenty of golden glow about it. I use the RT Blush Brush to sweep this onto my cheeks and sculpt a bit with it; I find the golden shimmer is enough to not need to use highlighter. Again, I would usually use a setting spray here but I’m moving away from that at the moment too.

Once my base is completed, I move on to the eyes. Brows are definitely a big factor in me feeling ready for the day, and I’ve been really impressed with the Maybelline Brow Satin pencil. I brush my brows into place, and then lightly draw an outline with the pencil end, before filling in the rest with the powder tip. I’ve found this creates really natural-looking strong brows, and the colour match is perfect. Winged eyeliner is one of my favourite parts of my routine, and the Soap and Glory SuperCat jumbo pen makes it so easy to do. There’s an angled tip for ease and precision, and the black pigment is very strong, so you end up with a really true black line that’s pretty difficult to mess up! Finally, I finish off with lashings of the Bourjois 1 Seconde Volume Waterproof Mascara, which is the best mascara I think I’ve ever used. Lots of volume, a really true black colour and amazing staying power, plus it’s really easy to remove at the end of the day. Perfection!

So that’s my current routine – do we share some of the same products? What’s your preferred routine?
