It’s that time again, and this month, I’d thought I’d mark payday with a little list of my must-haves for August! I’m kind of over summer clothes now, with most of my wishlist leaning towards some stylish essentials for Autumn. I can’t help it – I just prefer black and boots and coats; maybe I was made for those Scottish summers after all! I’ve got an upcoming post about my inspiration for Autumn, but so far it’s looking like 1960s/70s bohemia – in black!
Disclaimer: I may or may not have already purchased at least one of these items…
Lingerie is definitely something that feels like a luxury – even when it actually is an essential! So this black satin Topshop bralet might not be exactly everyday, but it’s so gorgeous and would definitely make me feel glamorous during the day. If you’re so inclined, I guess you could even wear this with a leather pencil skirt or some super-skinny jeans; I’ll see how my gym routine works out before I commit to giving that a go! I just love vintage-inspired lingerie, and this with some high-waisted satin panties would definitely make me feel a bit more like Daisy Lowe whilst going about my everyday.
I’ve had a classic trench coat tucked away in my wardrobe for years – H&M served me well, and it was the first present Lewis bought me. But after five and a half years, it’s definitely seen better days and has amassed some marks that no dry-cleaner can shift. So I’m looking to invest in an updated version, and this Topshop number is ticking every box for me. The timeless camel colour, double-breasted style and epaulettes are so chic! I could literally wear this with anything in my wardrobe. It’s not cheap but it’s a great price for something so essential to my Autumn wardrobe; I’m definitely tempted to click ‘Add to Bag’ on this one! This one from ASOS is a slightly cheaper alternative too.
Every so often, I find myself lurking on the Olive website to see what I can find. If you’ve never visited – where have you been?! This site is stocked full of gorgeous vintage-inspired pieces, perfect for adding a touch of Alexa to your wardrobe. During my most recent site-snoop, I spotted this beautiful oversized smock blouse and fell in love. I love the washed-out pale blue tone and the sailor-style collar; this would be gorgeous with some skinny jeans and that Topshop mac! Again, it’s not the cheapest place to shop but I defy you to find pieces like this anywhere else!
You know when you fall in love with an item online, but can’t justify the price? Of course you do. Do you also know when you find that item elsewhere, miles cheaper? THAT. Months ago I saw this Lavish Alice cape dress on ASOS and absolutely loved it; it’s sleek and chic and stylish, and I was so in love with the amazing attached cape. The ultimate LBD! Sadly, it was a fair bit more than I could spend on an occasional dress (do we sense a theme emerging here?) so I had to remove it from my saved items and just lust after it on Pinterest instead. Until one day last week, when I chanced upon a carbon copy on SheInside, at a fifth of the price. I couldn’t click ‘Buy’ quick enough! This will be the perfect dress for dinners and dancing in autumn and winter, paired with either ankle boots or heels; I can’t wait for it to arrive!
Another black dress? Who knew I was feeling this look so much? Topshop are just killing it for me this month – so many gorgeous retro-inspired pieces – and this dress jumped out at me when it popped up in my Twitter feed. I absolutely love it! The soft ruffles, the embroidery, the shape – and the fact that I can wear it now with pumps, with bare legs and boots next month, and with tights and the full kit come winter. It’s a little more than I would usually spend on a dress but I justified it with birthday money (see, we all knew that wouldn’t be getting spent on art!) and the fact that it’s trans-seasonal. I have actually bought this and I can confirm it is dreamy – DREAMY. Buy it before it whizzes out of stock!
And last but not least, some shoes. Not just any shoes. GOLD shoes. I love a penny loafer and this season I’m definitely going to commit to a pair; they’re ideal for wearing with jeans, with skirts and tights, with everything. I’m going to invest in a staple pair of black patent ones, but in the meantime, I am dreaming of this shiny gold pair. They are amazing, and a fantastic price. I can definitely see me strolling around the city in these come September – come to me, shiny shoes!
What are you treating yourself to this payday?
