I might have said it before (several times) but I really am a creature of habit when it comes to my beauty routine and my products of choice. However, every now and again I go a bit wild and decide to change things up a little bit – I know, I know, someone stop me…
My current beauty picks are a little bit different from my last; there’s a few staples there that never change but overall I’ve had a bit of a switch-up. Recently, my skin has taken a bit of a battering with some horrible stress-related cystic acne, but (fingers crossed) I’m coming out the other side of that now, so my focus is on making sure my skin looks the best it can, with the emphasis being placed elsewhere on my face to detract attention.
I’ve been using some Avene skincare recommended to me by a pharmacist, to help with my problem skin, but more on that in another post. This one’s all about the makeup!
I recently picked up the L’Oreal Infallible Mattifying Base Primer on a shopping trip, and so far, so fabulous. This thick, silky glides onto skin and smoothes out perfectly, filling in any fine lines and blurring any imperfections for a super-smooth, softly mattified base. This primer is excellent at keeping shine at bay and prolonging makeup wear time, and I have been seriously impressed. At only £7.99 a tube, this is something every makeup bag needs!
For months and months, I’ve been reading about how good the Bourjois CC Cream is – and now it’s in my stash, I can’t believe it took me so long to purchase it. I picked it up in Ivory to fill up a 3 for 2 deal and I haven’t looked back. Even with my problem skin, this is an absolute dream. It’s an incredibly light and silky formula, and blends in quickly and easily to create a natural-looking luminous base that lasts all day. I might even love it more than my beloved Healthy Mix… yep, it’s that good.
Concealer has never been more of an essential than it is right now – and I can’t be without Collection’s Lasting Perfection concealer. We all know that this is the dream, and I don’t need to tell you more about it, but if you’re suffering from big, red, angry spots, this will hide the lot. Guaranteed. I finish my base with a sweep of the Rimmel Match Perfection Loose Powder, another dressing table staple for me.
With my new love for a naturally matte base, I’m feeling a bit more subtle about highlighting. My love for the No7 Instant Radiance highlighter crayon has not subsided, and this champagne sheen is the most flattering thing ever. Alongside this, I’ve fallen a bit in love with the Bourjois Java Rice Powder – late to the party or what?! A quick sweep of this luminous pink powder and my skin looks well-rested and has that ‘lit-from-within’ glow. Be warned: a quick sweep is all you need, as this stuff is shimmery!
Another buy I’ve mentioned my love for before is the Revlon Photoready Cream Blush, in the shade Pinched; this softly shimmering, peachy cream blusher is the perfect hue to create a healthy glow and a gentle flush of colour. It also lasts forever!
I said that I was focusing on my eyes whilst my skin is clearing up, and I’m not kidding. I’ve been channelling my best Cara with the Maybelline Brow Satin pencil duo before moving on to the good stuff. I’ve reignited my love for seriously Sixties, Twiggy-inspired eye makeup; the perfect distraction from a less-than-perfect complexion. As I’ve said before, I’ve never loved a liner more than the Soap & Glory Supercat Fat Jumbo Eyeliner pen; this inky blacker-than-black formula and tapered nib creates the perfect last-all-day cat-eye every time. I’ve then been loading up my lashes with the L’Oreal Lash Architect 4D Mascara, in the waterproof formula; this creates super-thick, super-fluttery lashes in just two coats – I think it’s the best mascara I’ve ever used. Although, I did prefer the non-waterproof version, which didn’t smudge like this one does, oddly, and is much, much easier to remove. I know which one I’ll be buying next time!
So that’s my current daily makeup favourites – what are yours?
