My Blonde Hair Care Routine

So, as you might have seen, I’ve undergone a bit of a transformation recently – I’ve gone blonde. Yep, that most high-maintenance of hair choices is now bestowed upon me, and I am loving it. I don’t know if blondes have more fun, but a change is definitely enjoyable!

Of course, dyed blonde hair requires much more maintenance and care than my natural brunette barnet ever did – gone are the days of a few pumps of Mythic Oil and a tug-through with the Tangle Teezer. These days, I’m a bit better prepared and desperate to ensure my hair remains in as healthy condition as it did pre-bleach.

So, here are my must-have products for anyone else taking the plunge and reaching for the bleach…

L’Oreal Elvive Full Restore 5 Shampoo and Conditioner £7.98 for both
My hair is naturally dry and difficult, so you can imagine how tricky it is to tackle now it’s been bleached! I always look for super-moisturising shampoos and conditioners to try and inject some hydration back into my hair, and so far, so fabulous with this combination. The duo works to improve strength, shine and overall healthiness of hair, and it has been working a treat for me and my parched locks. I use this twice a week for regular maintenance and to keep my hair soft and silky.

Pro:Voke Touch of Silver Brightening Shampoo £3.19
You will probably have seen this particular product touted on every blonde hair care post you’ve ever read, but with good reason. Dyed blonde hair has a horrible tendency to fade and turn a bit brassy, a bit too yellow – not a good look. But washing hair once a week with this (scarily bright) violet shampoo works to neutralise those nasty yellow tones and brighten the overall look of hair. It’s perfect for cooler blondes as it adds those lovely silvery tones back in – just don’t leave it on for too long!

Umberto Giannini Hair Secrets Indulgent Beauty Moisture Mask £6.00
A hair mask is essential in a healthy blonde hair routine; if you’ve ever bleached your hair you’ll know how easily it can become dry and brittle, especially if you use heat when styling. Once a week, after my purple shampoo, I load up my locks with this seriously rich hair mask and let it do its thing. The result is soft, shiny, silky hair that looks and feels much healthier. A properly indulgent treat!

Dove Hair Nourishing Oil Care Leave-In Spray £3.59
This is a bit of a cheat’s addition, as this was a haircare staple for me long before I dyed my hair! This leave-in conditioner makes detangling hair pre-blow dry super simple, and a quick squirt in-between washes leaves my hair looking fresh, smooth and smelling gorgeous!

L’Oreal Professionel Mythic Oil £13.19
Again, another long-term love of mine, but Mythic Oil is a bit of a must-have for me. It’s a lot cheaper than its closest comparison, the heralded Moroccan Oil, but it does the same job for me. It’s incredibly nourishing and creates a soft sheen and a silky feel to my hair before I blow dry it. It also definitely helps with frizz, helping me to ensure a sleek look for several days. It also lasts an age!

And of course, no haircare routine is complete without the tools for the job!

Tangle Teezer £10.99
If you haven’t bought yourself a Tangle Teezer yet – what are you doing?! This little gem has transformed styling my hair, and helped enormously now that it’s much more prone to tangling. I use this gently when my hair’s wet to help with big knots, and then work through after initially blasting it with a hairdryer, before I start smoothing out my hair.

Hair Clamp £3.59 for 3
Needs no explanation – but a must for a smooth blowdry!

Trevor Sorbie Paddle Brush £9.49
A paddle brush has long been an essential of mine when it comes to achieving a smooth finish; long, thick hair needs a wide, stable surface area and this brush is more than man enough for the job. It’s sturdy and solid, but light to hold, and the brush head is cushioned and comfortable to use. Plus, the pins are flexible and rounded, so it’s perfect for working through knotty bits and smoothing out hair for maximum sleekness and shine.

So, there you have it – my must-have hair care routine for bleached blonde hair. Do you have any product recommendations for me?
