I love refreshing my makeup stash every now and again; at the moment it really is a bit of a rarity, while all of my spare cash goes on things for the house and the mortgage (sob!) but I can’t resist treating myself here and there!
After spotting the new L’Oreal Exclusive Pinks Collection on Instagram, the Blake shade zoomed straight to the top of my must-have list. And one tipsy trip to Boots later (wine on a weeknight, never ends well) I found myself with both the Blake shade in my hand, and the Naomi shade too. Oops? Despite not even considering it from the swatches online, I am more than a bit obsessed with the Naomi shade, it’s the perfect rosy pink, that my-lips-but-better kind of thing. Blake is a brighter rose shade which really helps to pep up my skin, the blue base is great for making teeth look whiter too. I am really keen on the formula of these lipsticks, they’re creamy and velvety and leave a finish that’s slightly softer than a full matte. It’s love!
On this same slightly-drunk trip to Boots, I managed to be focused enough to notice they had a 3-for-2 on makeup (never let wine-tinted glasses distract you from a discount!) and spent what felt like forever looking for my final product. I finally settled on the L’Oreal Lumi Magique Touch of Light highlighter/concealer pen – mostly because of the rose-gold packaging, I’ll admit. However, I’m pretty impressed; I’ve only used it a couple of times but it’s really working to brighten up my under-eye area, which my current concealer (Collection’s Lasting Perfection) just can’t manage. It’s a very light formula, super blendable and very flattering.
My next new product of choice came courtesy of my Elle subscription, the Orly Violet polish. I was hoping for the Rose Chrome Foil shade but alas, the perils of the postman choosing for you… However, I wasn’t disappointed as soon as I tried the shade, it’s one of those that you just can’t stop looking at. The formulation is great, as you’d expect from an Orly polish, and I’m tempted to go and scoop up another copy of Elle just to get hold of another shade!
Since I got my hair bleached, I’ve been using a lot more product in it, so I’ve been looking for a natural-bristled hairbrush to help remove buildup and smooth out my hair at night. Luckily I came across this Swissco one sitting alone in TK Maxx for a mere £4.99, and it’s been fantastic so far; it’s much gentler than my usual hairbrush, so it’s perfect for limiting damage while my hair is still recovering.
My final product of choice is something I’ve not used for years, but now I’m wondering why! I got a bottle of the Body Shop Vitamin E Toner as a gift recently and now I’ve opened it, I’m using it every day. Keen readers will know that the Body Shop’s Vitamin E range is a favourite of mine, the quality for the price point is just great and my skin just loves the whole range. The toner is just great for that last step in makeup removal, to clear away any leftover cleanser or excess oil and the last dregs of makeup, to leave my skin feeling super clean and refreshed.
