Coming back for more
I’ve said more than once that I’m definitely a creature of habit when it comes to beauty – very rarely do products make the cut and become part of my everyday stash, but when they do, they stick around. And they have to be good to replace one of the existing bunch!
I’ve been obsessed with one mascara for almost a year now, and I can’t see myself switching anytime soon. L’Oreal’s 4D Lash Architect mascara is everything I look for in a mascara, giving me thick, black, fluttery lashes perfect for my favourite 1960s look. The formula is blacker than black and doesn’t smudge or clump, lasting all day and even through rainy spells and workouts too. I usually apply two coats for max impact and am left with thick black lashes all day long. By contrast – the waterproof version of this is pants and should not be bought. So there we are.
One of my favourite cleansers is the Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter – it’s just such a dreamy way to remove makeup. A tin of this lasts me months and months, as you only need a small amount to dissolve a full face of makeup. I love the soft camomile scent, and the gentle formula means I’ve never had a bad reaction. I rub small blobs of this all over my face and massage in, before rinsing off with a hot flannel. Like a mini-facial everytime, I haven’t found a cleansing balm I like more than this!
For a quicker way to cleanse, I’m always drawn back to the Johnson’s Makeup Be Gone Pampering Wipes, mostly because of the gorgeous moonflower scent. I like to use wipes as a preliminary cleanse before using micellar water or another cleanser, and these wipes are so good at removing the bulk of makeup before I go in for the double cleanse. Cheap and very cheerful, and the fragrance is perfect for when you’re heading off to bed, so calming and soothing.
I can’t believe I’m going to wax lyrical about this product again, but here we are. I adore the Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum in Oil. I’ve been using this for just over a year and I still haven’t gotten bored of it. It’s a light but indulgent oil that sinks into skin perfectly for instant hydration, and leaves skin soft and glowing by morning. I love it and I can’t see anything else sneaking into my routine as a replacement any time soon.
Basic skincare is sometimes the best, and I’ve definitely found that some no-frills products don’t get the love they should. I personally love the extremely basic Nivea Soft Cream – I’ve bought mini tubs and full size tubs, and always have a tube in either my handbag or at my desk. It’s just the best moisturiser for hands, body or even face, as it’s so gentle and so nourishing. It’s a pretty thick formula but it always feels indulgent, not greasy or heavy. It’s so cheap, every handbag should have one!
