Five Good Things #6

This week has flown by and I’m not too sure where the time’s gone… It’s been a super busy week at work though and I’m definitely making the most of the weekend, resting up and taking it easy (probably a little too easy). Here’s what’s been making me smile this week…

I’m starting off with something that has made me seriously super sad this week. It’s not a good thing at all – but it does show there are silver linings. I am a huge Prince fan, and I’ve felt desperately sad since learning of his death on Thursday this week. I have always loved his music, and when I finally got to see him live back in 2014, it really was both a dream come true and easily the best performance I have ever seen, of anything, ever. It was incredible. So while I’ve felt truly blue (or purple) about this news, I’ve been taking the time to enjoy his music all over again and enjoy it for what it really was. We also watched Purple Rain last night for the first time in ages (definitely very difficult not to cry…) and I’ve been enjoying a plethora of interesting articles and interviews about the man himself too. Still very much hoping it’s all a big stunt though…

OK, on to the brighter things, the actual good things this week. Working in fashion, sometimes the perks of the job are really great. This week, I was lucky enough to get some of these perks, in the shape of choosing some items from the SS16 collections to have for myself. I chose these sandals – perfect for making my typical stripe-tee-and-jeans look a little more summery – and this super-pretty dress, which is just 1950s summer personified. Free clothes are great.

So while my summer wardrobe’s been getting into shape, I’ve also been prepping myself for the warmer weather. My summer beauty arsenal isn’t exactly substantial, but I know what I like and I know it works. I’ve been gradually building up a healthy summer glow with the Fake Bake Sport Daily Tan, which I love for a natural-looking colour that I can deepen as the summer goes on. Alongside this, I’ve been using Jolen Creme Bleach to lighten hair on my forearms so I’ve got a golden glow all round – it’s quick and easy and means my darker hairs don’t show up at all. I’ve also been loving the Revlon Skinlights Illuminator in Bare Skin under my foundation for a lovely warm finish to my face – perfect for summer!

My best friend, after being engaged for over two years, finally booked her wedding this week! I’m going to be her maid of honour so I’m super excited – I can’t wait to start planning with her and watching her walk down the aisle will be amazing. The wedding isn’t til next July but it’s so exciting to be able to start planning!

Finally, I’ve been spending my Saturday afternoon in the kitchen, baking a beautiful blueberry cake! I used this recipe and would highly recommend – it tastes delicious, smothered in cream cheese icing and extra blueberries, served with a cup of tea of course. I halved the recipe but somehow still ended up with enough leftover batter to make blueberry muffins – we’ll be eating well this week…. I love baking and don’t do it enough, so I’ve really enjoyed myself today. Now I’m off to tuck into a second slice…
