THE BASE LINE
When it comes to my favourite foundation look, I definitely tend to favour products that create a soft, glowy base that lets enough of my natural skin come through (hello freckles!) whilst also masking any unsightly blemishes. Let me talk you through my current favourite finds for achieving a natural, slightly perfected base…
Although my love for Healthy Mix remains, once Spring hits I can’t get enough of the Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream, in the shade Ivory. This is just like a runnier, thinner version of Healthy Mix that’s perfect for a softer makeup look and the warmer weather. I use a small squeeze of this, buffed well into skin with another favourite, the Real Techniques Buffing Brush – I find it gives that kind of my-skin-but-better vibe and it never looks thick or caked on.
However, it’s definitely not man enough to mask any pesky blemishes, which is where my favourite concealers come in. For under eyes, Collection’s Illuminating Touch in Naked is a great budget find (I also adore L’Oreal’s Lumi Magique) that brightens dark circles for a wide-awake look. It blends out well and when set, doesn’t tend to settle into any dry lines. For redness and blemishes, there’s nothing quite like Collection’s Lasting Perfection concealer, which I’ve been using for years – it even works under the eyes on especially sleepy days! I use the shade Fair, which blends beautifully into the CC cream for a flawless finish. It’s so thick and stays put for hours, making it ideal for covering redness on the nose and chin, and of course any spots or scarring.
I love getting that healthy glow to my skin, and although I’ll be doing a separate post on my favourite illuminators, I couldn’t not mention a recent budget find that makes quick work of achieving a dewy radiant vibe. Collection’s new Speedy Highlighter in Pearl Sheen is a budget version of my beloved No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter, and so far, so good. It’s not as pigmented as the No7 so I don’t use it as my sole highlighter, but it’s perfect for use before powder to amp up the glow and give that luminous look we all love.
To finish off my base, I press the Rimmel Match Perfection Loose Powder in Translucent under my eyes and over any blemishes with the Real Techniques Contour Brush, then sweep over the rest of my face with the Powder Brush. I love this powder; it sets my base beautifully and adds just enough colour to perfect my base without altering it too much. I know lots of people only use powder on the T-zone but I use it all over, my makeup just doesn’t feel set without it!
As the Rimmel powder is coloured, I don’t like to touch up during the day with it, as it starts to look patchy. But I’ve found an ideal solution thanks to this little TK Maxx find – the Technic Soft Focus Transparent Setting Powder. This completely transparent powder is incredibly fine and is the perfect product to soak up any excess shine partway through the day, without layering on any extra colour. I keep this in my handbag with a flat-topped face brush for on-the-go touch-ups to keep my base looking fresh and flawless.
